Kansas City, KS -- While the
WEC's James Krause and 16-2
prospect
Eric Marriott are slated to co-headline the return of the
Titan Fighting Championships (
www.TitanFighting.com and
www.Twitter.com/TitanFighting) on Friday, Dec. 18, an dynamic
undercard for the event will also feature two noteworthy debuts.
Fans in
attendance for TFC 15 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City (tickets now on sale at
Ticketmaster.com) will be treated to the professional MMA
debuts of heavyweight
Ritchie Carmack and lightweight
Nick Spohn.
Carmack, a native of Kansas City, is a blue chip heavyweight prospect in boxing
with an unblemished 7-0 record. All seven of his victories in the squared circle
have ended via TKO or KO, with six having been stopped in the first
round.
"In recent years, we have seen heavyweight athletes that have made
their names in other combat sports such as
Cain Velasquez and
Shane
Carwin rise to elite-level status in MMA. And with Ritchie, I truly believe
he is going to have the same type of career progression," said Titan Fighting
Championships President
Joe Kelly. "His potential in MMA is limitless and
I don't know if there is anyone currently competing in MMA that hits
harder."
Over the years, Titan has been a proving ground for current
superstars such as Krause (WEC),
Jay Hieron (Strikeforce),
Alan
Belcher (UFC),
Kyle Bradley (UFC),
L.C. Davis (WEC),
Bobby
Voelker (Strikeforce),
Rudy Bears (Strikeforce),
Zak Cummings
(Strikeforce), and
Rob Kimmons (UFC). Spohn, who leads the next crop of
possible future champions training under
Pat Miletich at
Miletich
Fighting Systems, is looking to follow in their footsteps.
"There's a
whole crop of young guns training at MFS in Bettendorf that are flying under the
radar of the MMA mainstream," Kelly remarked. "However, Pat is grooming a new
crop of blue chippers and Nick Spohn is one of those fighters. The buzz on him
has been tremendous and he was recently a part of
B.J. Penn's training
camp leading up to his UFC 107 bout vs.
Diego Sanchez. We're excited to
have his pro debut set up for TFC 15 on Dec."
Carmack had been scheduled
to fight
Alex Rozman but Rozman was recently forced to pull out of the
event after being diagnosed with Bronchitis. While Carmack currently is without
an opponent, Titan Fighting officials have been working on several
leads.
"It's not easy to find someone to fight a guy like Ritchie even
though he has no MMA fights on his resume. However, we're in negotiations right
now with a couple of fighters and Ritchie is going to have an opponent," Kelly
said.
Spohn, who is 1-0 as an amateur, will take on Missouri native
Chris Andrade, 2-3.
"Chris has a lot more actual match experience
than Nick, but Nick's pedigree is second to none and both he and Pat have been
preparing for his debut for quite some time," said Kelly. "It's a pretty evenly
matched fight and will be a great test for both fighters."
Tickets for
Titan Fight Championships 15 for Dec. 18 (local start time 8 p.m. CT) are now on
sale with the event set to emanate from the historic Memorial Hall in Kansas
City, KS. The city and venue have been a recent hot bed for mixed martial arts
action and the Dec. 18 event will continue the momentum.
"In just the
past eight months, Kansas City and Memorial Hall have been host to an M-1
Challenge event, an M-1 Breakthrough event televised live on HDNet, and most
recently, a Strikeforce Challengers event televised live on Showtime. Now Kansas
City fight fans will get to witness the official re-birth of the Titan Fighting
Championships on Dec. 18 and I couldn't be more excited," stated
Kelly.
